We use two types of wax, Lycon wax and Strip wax.
Lycon wax is carefully formulated using only the finest resins, beeswax, and aromatherapy oils. It delivers a superior performance of hair removal whilst nurturing the skin leaving it soft and smooth. Their hot wax is renowned for its shrink-wrapping ability, perfect for removing stubborn hairs as short as 1 mm. This elite wax helps to prevent ingrown hairs, breakages, redness and the painful sting associated with waxing. Hot Lycon wax is used to treat sensitive areas of the body. It is applied thickly and when it has cooled down and hardened it is then removed. The benefit of this is that it is less traumatic to the skin, causes less hair breakage and ingrown hairs.
Strip wax is applied thinly to an area and is then removed using a paper strip; this is suited for less dense hair growth and for larger areas, such as legs, arms, chest, and back.
Everyone is different, but as a general rule with wax most people see minimal re-growth over the first 2 weeks then a noticeable growth after that.
Most people get waxed every 4-6 weeks.
For areas to be treated with hot Lycon wax the hair can be as short as 1mm.
Everyone has their own hair growth cycle, but generally I am able to wax areas with hot Lycon wax a week after the last shave.
For areas treated with strip wax the hair normally would need to be at least a quarter of an inch long.
We may be able to remove the hairs after 2 weeks, but you will notice regrowth very quickly as only around 60% of hairs will be on the surface of the skin, leading to disappointment and wasted money. Allowing your hairs to grow means we are able catch more hairs, giving you a great smooth feeling that will last much longer.
Everyone’s pain threshold is different but, most people find that leg and underarm waxing isn’t what you would call painful, just a little uncomfortable. It really is only for moments, with no lingering soreness after treatment.
REMEMBER: Shaved hair is stronger hair, do yourself a favor and stay away from the razor!
The application of specifically formulated treatment oil on the area provides a barrier protecting the skin. This allows the wax to shrink wrap around the hair, so the skin is not pulled. With Lycon wax over a period of time treatments should become less uncomfortable as hair growth becomes sparser. This elite wax has been specifically formulated to help minimise discomfort alongside an expert waxing technique.
There’s a lot of confusion surrounding Hollywood and Brazilian waxing. To set the record straight, the Brazilian - all hair is removed from underneath and from on the area between the buttocks and you are left with a ‘landing strip’ which can be as wide or narrow as you wish, and a Hollywood is all hair removed.
Brazilian and Hollywood waxes, it is best if you don’t wear any underwear.
This is not a problem; please make sure you apply a fresh tampon prior to treatment and that the string is tucked in.
Yes, Lycon products are safe to use whilst pregnant.
It is normal to experience a small amount of re-growth after the first time of waxing. It generally takes four wax treatments for a hair growth cycle to be established, although this will vary from one person to another. It is recommended to have a four-week gap between treatments to remain hair free.
Any discomfort should be minimised due to the high-quality wax used and correct application. After the treatment care is taken to make sure all wax residue is removed and soothing after care products are applied. There will be none of the stickiness associated with strip wax as this is not used for treating sensitive areas.
The treatment itself involves a quick chat and consultation prior to the wax, then you will be left to undress your bottom half (and yes....for Brazilian & Hollywood this does involve taking your knickers off!) and getting yourself comfortable on the couch. Wipes are provided for you to freshen up before the treatment begins. Disposable underwear can be provided if necessary, however, they do make things a lot more tricky and time consuming, going against our aim of getting the treatment done as quickly and fuss free as possible!
Remember! You genuinely do not have ANYTHING we haven't seen before!
The whole process is designed to be as efficient as possible and keep any discomfort to a minimum. The therapist will instruct you in where to position your leg or where to place your hand in order to make sure the procedure is a comfortable as possible. As a general rule, clients DO NOT end up on all fours! The positioning tends to be much more discreet! When your wax is complete, you should leave the salon with no soreness, heat or nasty stickiness left, although a little pinkness on the skin is not uncommon. The specialist wax we use means that your skin is actually conditioned rather that traumatised through the treatment. Follow the aftercare advice you will be given and by the next day you will be as good as new!

A lot of factors effect how long your Shellac will last. The condition of your nails in the first place, the type of job you have, the amount of housework or gardening you do and how well you take care of your Shellac. As a guide however we expect Shellac to last around 2 weeks on fingers, although some people unfortunately can’t keep it that long and 4 to 6 weeks on toes.
This is a very common question, the simple answer is no. Shellac itself will not cause any damage to your natural nails provided you follow the home care advice given and have your Shellac professionally removed. We offer this service free of charge when having a new Shellac applied. Most people find that Shellac actually protects their nails, enabling them to grow healthier and stronger.
With a little care and attention Shellac will last without chipping or peeling with normal wear & tear. Shellac is fabulous, but you still need to take a few precautions to ensure you get the best from your polish. We recommend you always wear gloves while gardening or doing household cleaning, and apply CND Solar Oil on a daily basis to keep your nails nourished. Solar Oil is available to purchase along with CND Almond Hydrating Hand Lotion.
Should your Shellac lift or chip, please do not be tempted to pick it or pull it off!
This can damage your natural nail - instead smooth it off with a low grit nail file.
Please be aware some sunscreens and insect repellents contain solvents that can damage Shellac. We recommend washing your hands throughly after applying sun screen or swimming.
Finally - never pick or peel your Shellac off.
Take advantage of our removal service to keep your nails in top condition.
You’ve heard that Shellac manicures, or gel manicures are awesome and you want to try it, but, before you do you would like to know the difference.
With a natural nail manicure your nails are filed and shaped and cuticle work is done. Your nails are polished with enamel and left to dry. Manicures are great, but they have a couple of real disadvantages:
Firstly, once your manicure is finished, you have to wait for the polish to dry completely or you risk smudging it when you put your coat on, unlock your car or put your seatbelt on, (quite often ruining your entire manicure before you even get home.)
Secondly, if you’ve managed to completely dry your polish without smudging, the natural oils in your nails would cause the polish to chip within only a few days.
If your natural nails are weak or thin or just not pretty, you could get some acrylic nails. These allow you to add length and strength and they last well. To put it most simply, acrylic nails are are a mix of powder and liquid monomer that's combined and shaped onto your nails with a brush. Acrylic is air dried there is no use of UV or LED lamp.
Like acrylic nails, they add durability and strength and help prevent breakage for long, weak or thin nails. They are created by applying layers of builder gel to your natural nails with or without tips glued on for length. Each layer of gel cures under a UV lamp for 2 minutes or LED lamp for 30-60 seconds. You can also apply any gel polish colour over to finish.
A gel manicure is the same as a regular manicure, only using a gel polish to finish. Some brand names you see for gel polish are - Shellac, Gelish, Geleration, OPI etc. They are all nail polishes made from curable gel substances but sold and labelled by different manufacturers.
The gel polish is applied similar to traditional polish, but it cures under a UV or LED lamp. What makes it truly wonderful is that your nails are completely dry and hardened when you leave.
I mean... dry enough to put on gloves or boots! And the polish normally lasts for up to two or more weeks.
No more smudges... no more chips.
Like regular nail polish, gel polishes are for colour and shine only.
They should never be applied to an extended tip without first adding builder gel to secure the extended length.
CND is the original gel polish and I have been using it since it was launched in May 2010.
I love, love, love, the CND Shellac brand of gel polish for your natural nails and personally consider it the safest choice, also because I have allergies to many other products but not CND Shellac. It is kinder to your natural nails, It does not require any filing to remove and only needs 10 minutes to completely soak off, whereas all of the other brands I have tried require longer soak times and some filing or scraping to remove.
In a nutshell - gel offers outstanding beauty, shine and durability whether you add gel polish, tips for length or hard builder gels.
